Jumelle Jumelle

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Also Platz machen

Was ist derzeit euer Lieblingskleidungsstück? Euer Lieblingsaccessiore?

Was gefällt euch besonders gut am bloggen?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Und alles was Medienwissenschaftler

Mom to the rescue

This incredible scene was captured minutes after a herd of buffalo tried to drive a lioness and her babies from their den.

The watchful lioness carefully nestled each one-day-old cub between her jaws and padded to a nearby bush for safety in Okavago, Botswana.

Twitter Calculates Reputation Scores for Each User

Ever wonder how Twitter determines which users to suggest in the Who to Follow section?

Federated Media’s John Battelle posed this question to Twitter co-founder Evan Williams at the Web 2.0 Summit. Part of the answer, according to Williams, is that the company calculates a reputation score for every user.

While Williams — who recently stepped down as Twitter’s CEO to focus on product — did not disclose specifics, he did share that each Twitter user has a reputation score, which the company uses internally as part of its Who to Follow formula. That score may eventually become part of Twitter’s public-facing features, says Williams.

Reputation scores, and influence in particular, have become trendy subject matters in today’s social media world. Startup Klout has developed an entire business around scoring social influence. A Twitter user’s Klout score, for instance, could determine whether he or she gets special treatment from an airline or hotel.

Apparently, Twitter has wrestled with the notion of making its internal version of reputation scores public for some time now. Should it do so — and we hope it will — Twitter could shake up the newly forming market around influence.

IPL player auctions on January 8, 9

The IPL player auction for the 2011 season will be held on January 8 and 9 in Mumbai, the league's governing council has announced. The tournament itself will feature eight teams, playing 60 matches, and run from April 8 to May 22.

The tournament, which begins a week after the World Cup ends, will involve each of the eight sides playing playing 14 games, adding up to 56 matches, the same as in previous IPL editions. The top two from the league rounds will then contest a play-off match, with the winner qualifying for the "Grand Final." The teams that finish third and fourth in the league stage will contest the other play-off, and the winner of that game will play the defeated team from the first play-off to decide the second finalist.

The auction is likely to be on the scale of the first one, held in 2008, with teams starting largely from scratch, and will be held under rules framed in September. One difference will be the absence of "icon" players - originally, five franchises had one player each named as its icon. The auction was initially to have been held this month but uncertainty over the composition of the tournament - with two franchises expelled and a third, Kochi, in limbo - forced a postponement.

The governing council, which met in Mumbai on Wednesday, was expected to have discussed the status of the Kochi franchise but Rajiv Shukla, a BCCI vice-president and council member, said it did not figure. He did, however, reiterate that the 2011 season would have eight participating teams.

Kochi have until November 27 to reply to the IPL's notice asking it to set its house in order; if, as seems likely, the franchise owners decide to call it quits, the IPL will start the auction process for a replacement team. With a majority of the current franchises in the southern half of the country, any new franchise is likely to be from the north - Ahmedabad being the front-runner.

The new auction rules governing player retention, which have been criticised by the franchises, allow a team to keep up to four players but at a steep price. The first player retained will cost a team $1.8 million against the salary cap of $9 million, regardless of the amount the player is actually paid. The second player will cost $1.3 million, the third $900,000 and the fourth $500,000.

Facebook unveils e-mail

The world's favourite social networking website, Facebook has launched a new messaging service, which allows the users to communicate with people outside the social network.

The new messaging system will provide a '@facebook.com' e-mail address to users. The new system will integrates all web and text-based communications and works directly in the Facebook page.

Texts, email or instant messages will all come into one 'feed' or 'social inbox' and users can respond in any way they want. Users can respond to messages via an instant message or email.

The entire conversation histories will be stored in Inbox, which users can check at any time. Now Facebook users can connect with other people with e-mail or messaging other than the current system of posting messages on profile page and internal messaging service.

"This is not an email killer. This is a messaging system that includes email as one part of it," said Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO.

"Maybe we can help push the way people do messaging more towards this simple, real time, immediate personal experience. Email is still really important to a lot of people. We think this simple messaging is how people will shift their communication," he added.

"We really want to enable people to have conversations with the people they care about," Facebook's director of engineering Andrew Bosworth said.

The new service will be rolled out in coming months for Facebook's 500 million plus users with a @facebook.com address.

The new e-mail service will be a threat to internet giant Google's mail service Gmail and Yahoomail.

AOL Unveils “Project Phoenix,” Its New Webmail App

AOL this afternoon unveiled an updated web client for e-mail, which it says accounts for 45% of all its page views. The announcement and new features have arrived just one day before Facebook is expected to announce an e-mail solution of its own.

The new e-mail app — currently called “Project Phoenix” — is in beta testing with just a few users, but it will launch to the public next year sometime. It’s part of a recent spate of AOL moves to reinvigorate a once-great brand that has recently been eclipsed by newer ventures like Google and Facebook.

The company recently launched a Groupon-like group-buying site and acquired the popular tech blog TechCrunch; those are just a couple of its recent moves. The webmail redesign is a particularly notable move because of that 45% figure we just mentioned.

According to CNET, the new design “looks a lot like Gmail” with some extra features added in, such as a quick bar for easily writing and sending short e-mails. There’s also a new Twitter-like side bar called “Smart View” for previewing the contents of e-mails and their attachments, as well as maps, conversation threads and other data.

Phoenix supports e-mail addresses on the AOL-owned domains aol.com, ygm.com, wow.com, games.com and love.com, and it will also bring in messages from Yahoo Mail, Hotmail or Gmail. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can go to the Project Phoenix website and request an invite, but you’ll be waiting a little while.

Putin Falls in Love

Russian PM Vladimir Putin hugs and kisses the Bulgarian Shepherd puppy that his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov presented to him in Sofia on Saturday, Nov 13.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister has a passion for canine pets and the Bulgarian Shepherd Dog is his favorite breed. He states that politicians should be like these dogs, explaining that a Bulgarian Shepherd is "faithful, strong, fights predators and bad people, and is a very good guard."

Another male puppy of Borisov's is reportedly being secretly trained as a gift for present US President Barack Obama.
